In a recent MLB owners’ meeting, the concept of a “golden at-bat” arose. The potential rule change, which would allow teams to bring up one of their best sluggers to the plate for an additional plate appearance, sparked a firestorm on social media.

Among the other potential rule changes are a “position swap,” through which other teams have the opportunity to make two opposing players switch positions for an inning—pitchers excluded. Another proposal involved making one member of the away team’s starting lineup sing the national anthem as a means of “throwing them off their game.”

The final proposal—and perhaps the most controversial—pertains specifically to playoff games. During the seventh-inning stretch, Steve Harvey will emerge from the bullpen and host an abridged version of Family Feud with members of each starting lineup. In the event of a tie game following the ninth inning, extra innings will not be played. Instead, the game will be decided by the winner of Family Feud: MLB Edition.
